FASCIA MOUNT vs SURFACE MOUNT
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on February 26, 2011
We are often asked “what is the difference between FASCIA MOUNT and SURFACE MOUNT railings and why is this important to know before choosing railings?”
FASCIA MOUNT railings are mounted on the outside edge of the deck, thereby maximizing deck space, and removing hardware from the deck surface, and your line of vision. Fascia Mount railings are the perfect option for fibreglass or vinyl decks because they do not penetrate deck surfaces eliminating water intrusion into the deck structure. Fascia Mount railings can be more expensive due to the cost of fabricating the brackets, however, the longevity of the deck is extended providing long term savings. Fascia Mount railings are a better option in wet climates because, as there is no water intrusion, there are no issues with rot or mould.
SURFACE MOUNT railings are less expensive as they are easier to install and do not require specially fabricated brackets. Surface Mount railings will work for concrete decks or drip through wood surfaces, because water is able to escape. With Surface Mount railings the hardware will be visible as the brackets are attached to the top of the deck. Surface Mount railings are ideal for arid or dry climates; however, in wet climates they are an affordable option for concrete or drip through wood surfaces. When installing interior railings Surface Mount railings are the way to go.
Choosing a mounting system can be a big decision. Style, deck surfaces, and placement of brackets need to be factored in when making a decision. Although budget is a factor, it should not be the main consideration in a rainy or wet climate. Fibreglass and vinyl deck surfaces with surface mount railings do not allow for water to drip through. Using Fascia Mount with fibreglass and vinyl decks increases deck longevity, thereby, reducing future costs by eliminating punctures in the waterproof membrane of the fibreglass and/or vinyl deck surface. And interior railings call for Surface Mount.

Topless Glass Railing Invention Comes To Vancouver
New Invention replaces restrictive railings that steal value by blocking priceless views.
September 30, 2010 – Falcon Railings is excited to announce the expansion of their topless glass railing system to Vancouver. Falcon Railings Vancouver has been operating over the past year with tremendous success. This unique design system, featuring vertical posts with rotating gaskets, adapts to any deck shape and accommodates all types of angles.
Topless glass railing systems add significant value to any home as well as provide owners with breathtaking views, unobstructed by traditional rail posts. “Topless glass railings offer an attractive alternative to traditional glass railings, wooden and aluminum types while still meeting or exceeding safety requirements,” says Frank Viscount, Co-Owner of Falcon Railings Vancouver. For homeowners looking to sell, adding a topless glass deck railing system will add the wow factor as buyers are often willing to pay more if a property views are unobstructed.
Many reputable companies have already worked with FRV’s topless glass railing system. It is featured in RDC Fine Homes’ 2010 Net Zero Home in Whistler, the first green house designed to produce more energy than it uses, and Rammed Earth House another RDC design for environmentally conscious homeowners who are mindful of their environmental footprint. “The topless railings gives an exception unobstructed view, not to mention the beauty it adds to the house curb appeal,” says Richard Haywood of RDC Fine Homes.
FRV was featured in the Vancouver Interior Design Show and The WestHouse, at Live City Yaletown Olympic venue with SmallWorks Studio / Laneway Housing another eco-friendly company utilizing green building practices specializing in eco-density housing.
FRV ‘s glass railing system can also be seen on the roof top terrace in Award Winning & Heritage Designated Building in the Heart of Yaletown (1155 Mainland Street) – the Percival Bldg circa 1912 aka “Del Prado”, showcasing a rooftop deck railing system that features 10 mm privacy glass.
